Half an Hour with Canadian Mothers

Half an Hour with Canadian Mothers is a sketch that L.M. Montgomery published in the November 1901 issue of the Toronto magazine The Ladies’ Journal. It consists of a blend of poetry (“Mother’s Mending Basket”), vignettes (“The Children’s Garden,” “One Mother’s Opinions,” “Bright Sayings”), and child-rearing advice (“What to Teach Your Son,” “What to Teach Your Daughter”), and some of its components were republished separately (especially “What to Teach Your Son”). It appears in A Name for Herself: Selected Writings, 1891–1917 (2018).
