Fathers and Sons

Fathers and Sons is episode one of the fifth season of the Sullivan Entertainment long-form television series Road to Avonlea (1990–1996) and the fifty-third episode overall. It first aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on 9 January 1994 (as part of a double header with the subsequent episode, “Memento Mori”) and on the Disney Channel on 21 March 1994 (where it aired out of order as the third episode of season five). It was written by Heather Conkie and directed by Otta Hanus. It was preceded by “Hearth and Home” and followed by “Memento Mori.”

This episode stars series regulars Zachary Bennett (Felix King), Gema Zamprogna (Felicity King), Lally Cadeau (Janet King), and Cedric Smith (Alec King); absent from this episode are series regulars Sarah Polley (Sara Stanley), Jackie Burroughs (Hetty King), and Mag Ruffman (Olivia Dale). Guest stars include Michael Mahonen (Gus Pike), Paul Soles (Mr. Boddin), Kay Tremblay (Aunt Eliza), Ian D. Clark (Simon Tremayne), and Harmony Cramp (Cecily King).

Series regular Cedric Smith was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for his performance in this episode.
