Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series (2000–2001)

Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series was a twenty-six-episode animated program that was aimed at six- to ten-year-old viewers and that adapted characters and plots from both Sullivan Entertainment’s miniseries Anne of Green Gables and its long-form series Road to Avonlea. According to Sullivan Entertainment’s website, the “educational objectives” of the series were “to support children’s life skills development—that is, the set of skills needed to live a productive family and community life.” The series premiered on TVOntario on 4 September 2000 and on PBS in spring 2001.

Voice actors who appeared regularly throughout the series included Wayne Robson (Matthew Cuthbert), Bryn McAuley (Anne Shirley), Patricia Gage (Marilla Cuthbert), Linda Sorensen (Hetty King), Patricia Hamilton (Rachel Lynde), Emily Hampshire (Diana Barry), Ali Mukaddam (Gilbert Blythe), Dalene Irvine (Felicity King), and Kyle Fairlie (Felix King).

Twenty-one of the episodes were directed by Lilliane Andre, the remainder by Richard Allen. The episodes were written by Kate Barris, Claire Ross Dunn, Clive Endersby, Patrick Granleese, Terri Hawkes, Laura Kosterski and Stephen Zoller, Michael MacLennan, Bruce Robb, and Ken Ross. Kevin Sullivan and Trudy Grant were the executive producers of the series, Marilyn McAuley the producer, and Christine Davis the associate producer. The series was followed by a feature film, Anne: Journey to Green Gables, that was slated for theatrical release in 2001 but was released on DVD in 2005.
