Jonathan Crombie (1966–2015)

I am sorry to pass on the news that Jonathan Crombie, who played Gilbert Blythe in three Anne of Green Gables miniseries by Sullivan Entertainment, died on April 15 at the age of 48, according to a CBC News report posted earlier today.

My condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

UPDATE: Yesterday’s CBC News report that announced Crombie’s death has been updated several times to include more details about his death as well as several tributes to him, including from his sister Carrie Crombie, his Anne co-star Megan Follows, and producer/director Kevin Sullivan.

It was with the greatest sadness that I learned the demise of Jonathan Crombie, which for so many of us was definitely always Gilbert Blythe. I would like to humbly express my deepest sympathy to Mr Crombie’s family, close friends and for all those who were dear to his heart. I also would like to express my support for Mrs Megan Follows as well as Mr Kevin Sullivan who definitely must be in absolute despair as we are all.

I unfortunately cannot say I had the honour to be introduced to Mr Jonathan Crombie but I would like to say that he was a man of honour and a true model for everyone and an incredibly gifted actor and personality. The world will miss him and we lost truly a great heart and mind. I hope everyone will remember him as joyful and bright as he always was.

Gilbert Blythe has and always will be a model in my life and as once said Gus Pike, it is a pity he left this world…

God may welcome him in His blessing hands!
