CBC and Netflix released today nearly identical trailers for the second season of Anne with an “E” (now apparently called Anne with an “E” on CBC as well). Differences between them? Besides the background music, the release date: in a reverse of the first season, which aired weekly on the CBC in March and April 2017 before being released the rest of the world on Netflix that May (it then appeared on Netflix in Canada this past January), the second season of ten episodes will appear on Netflix on July 6 but won’t be available in Canada until the CBC begins airing them starting on September 23.
I’m so looking forward to the new season!
I wasn’t a huge fan of this series. Unfortunately, I found it very dark. What I love the most about LMM is her optimistic way of presenting heavy topics (death, abuse, loss of a child, etc). I felt like this series did not present her book in a way that would be true to the author’s style. Instead, this series seemed to focus on the heavier and more sinister areas. Meh. Not my thing. I’ll stick with the books and the older version.
And I know – To each his/her own. It’s good to present old materials in new ways. It just wasn’t a way I enjoyed.
PS – I really enjoy this blog. Thank you~
Thanks for your comment! I’m really glad to hear you enjoy the blog. And I certainly appreciate what you say about the new television series—I had a similar reaction when I first watched the Emily of New Moon series twenty years ago. In a sense, I find the darker tone more in keeping with some of Montgomery’s later books, especially the final sequel, The Blythes Are Quoted—have you read this one? I’ve enjoyed some of the choices in Anne better than others, but overall, I find the alterations intriguing because I don’t know what’s going to happen next. But of course, no adaptation will please everyone, especially for a book to which so many people are deeply attached.
