This page lists a selection of editions of L.M. Montgomery’s books that were published between 1985 and 1989.

Anne of Green Gables: Three Volumes in One (New York: Avenel Books/Gramercy Books, 1986)

Lucy Maud Montgomery. Introduction (xi–xvi) by Ellen S. Shapiro. Original illustrations by George Gibbs. Print, jacketed hardcover, 6” x 9”, xviii + 634 pp. ISBN: 0-517-60517-1. The dedications appearing in all three volumes are quoted and summarized in “Dedicatory Note.” The epigraph to Anne of Green Gables is included at the beginning of the volume, but the epigraphs to Anne of Avonlea and Anne’s House of Dreams are omitted.

Notes: This omnibus edition of Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne’s House of Dreams was published as a jacketed hardcover by Avenel Books in 1986; the volume was later reprinted by Gramercy Books with a new dust jacket featuring Megan Follows as Anne. It was followed by two more omnibus volumes by Avenel Books/Gramercy Books: Days of Dreams and Laughter: The Story Girl and Other Tales (1990) and Anne of the Island and Tales of Avonlea (1991). The cover image is a photograph of Megan Follows, who appeared as Anne Shirley in Sullivan Entertainment’s miniseries Anne of Green Gables.

This edition reprints an earlier Bantam Books edition of the novel published in 1976. A nearly identical edition was published by Seal Books (Toronto), also in 1987.

Notes: The original copyright date is listed erroneously as 1910 instead of 1911. The first printing includes August 1987 as the date of its publication; by the fifth printing, that date is changed to April 1987. Ben Stahl is identified as the cover artist only in the 1993 reissue.

This edition is a reissue of the 1944 edition published by The Ryerson Press and reprinted by McGraw-Hill Ryerson starting in 1972. Like the 1944 edition, this one is reprinted from the plates of the original edition (published by L.C. Page and Company in 1911), with a new table of contents, a new list of Montgomery’s books, a new copyright page, and new jacket copy.

The back cover lists these books in slightly different order and includes The Road to Yesterday, published by McGraw-Hill Ryerson in 1974.
