A Note on the Text

This edition is based on a British version of the text, which drops the full stops from abbreviations such as “Mrs.” and “Dr.” and uses single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks. This edition was released as one of several Penguin Classics (Canada) editions in 2006, including of Catharine Parr Traill’s The Backwoods of Canada, Emily Carr’s Klee Wyck, Susanna Moodie’s Roughing It in the Bush, Frederick Philip Grove’s Settlers of the Marsh, and Stephen Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.

Although its cover includes the term “Anniversary Edition,” this edition was published one year after the centenary of Anne of Green Gables, which occurred in 2008. Anchor Canada was an imprint of Random House of Canada (Toronto).
