How I Began to Write

How I Began to Write is a memoir by L.M. Montgomery published in the Toronto Globe in January 1911, as part of the “Circle of Young Canada” column edited by “Rose Rambler.” It repeats some anecdotes about her younger life and her evolution as an author that had already appeared in her journals and that would be reworked for her major account of her life, “The Alpine Path: The Story of My Career,” published in 1917. The memoir is reprinted in The L.M. Montgomery Reader, Volume 1: A Life in Print.
