The Lady and the Blade

The Lady and the Blade is episode two of the fourth season of the Sullivan Entertainment long-form television series Road to Avonlea (1990–1996) and episode 41 overall. It first aired on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on 17 January 1993 (as part of a double header with the preceding episode, “Tug of War”) and on the Disney Channel on 15 March 1993. It was written by Deborah Nathan and directed by Otta Hanus. It was preceded by “Tug of War” and followed by “Incident at Vernon River.”

This episode stars series regulars Sarah Polley (Sara Stanley), Jackie Burroughs (Hetty King), Mag Ruffman (Olivia Dale), Zachary Bennett (Felix King), Gema Zamprogna (Felicity King), Cedric Smith (Alec King), and Lally Cadeau (Janet King). Guest stars include Patricia Hamilton (Rachel Lynde), Michael Mahonen (Gus Pike), David Fox (Clive Pettibone), Heather Brown (Izzy Pettibone), and Mark Bigney (Morgan Pettibone).

This episode marks the first appearance of a number of new recurring performers, including David Fox, who had previously played John Blythe in Sullivan Entertainment’s Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel.
