This edition is based on a British version of the text, which drops the full stops from abbreviations such as “Mrs.” and “Dr.” and uses single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks.
This edition was released as one of several Penguin Classics (Canada) editions in 2006, including of Catharine Parr Traill’s The Backwoods of Canada, Emily Carr’s Klee Wyck, Susanna Moodie’s Roughing It in the Bush, Frederick Philip Grove’s Settlers of the Marsh, and Stephen Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. Followed by a paperback edition in 2012 that reproduced this cover art but omitted Lisa Moore’s paratexts.

The paratexts are supplemented by a new “Suggestions for Further Reading.”
