Notes: This edition is based on a British version of the text, which drops the full stops from abbreviations such as “Mrs.” and “Dr.” and uses single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks. This edition was released as one of several Penguin Classics (Canada) editions in 2006, including of Catharine Parr Traill’s The Backwoods of Canada, Emily Carr’s Klee Wyck, Susanna Moodie’s Roughing It in the Bush, Frederick Philip Grove’s Settlers of the Marsh, and Stephen Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.

This edition also includes an excerpt from Budge Wilson’s prequel, Before Green Gables, also published that year.
